Community-led regreening for a sustainable future.

WE LEAD

A Tanzanian organization, led by local people, restoring degraded land through nature-based solutions. Working farmers to farmers, the communities we partner with have brought back more than 34 million trees.

LEAD Foundation is accredited by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

LEAD stands for Leadership, Environment and Action for Development.

OUR PURPOSE

Equipping Leaders || Conserving Environment || Serving Communities

Three goals that grow together, driven by one belief: lasting change happens when communities lead it themselves.

LEAD Foundation envisions best principles and practices of servant leadership, sustainable environmental conservation and community development practiced across the globe.

LEAD Foundation promotes servant leadership, environmental restoration, and community transformation via community-led projects in and outside Tanzania.

We treat leadership, environment, and community as one. Our methods are low in cost, led by local people, and carried on by the communities themselves. See our approach.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

-

The LEAD Foundation’s philosophy is encapsulated in a “rotating theory of change” where its core pillars – Leadership, Environment, and Community are interconnected and mutually reinforcing.

-

This approach, is guided by the motto: “Equipping Leaders, Conserving Environments, Serving Communities,” and drives a self-sustaining cycle of transformation.

-

The entire process is amplified by strong partnerships – by collaborating with local and international organizations, government bodies, and research institutions, we integrate diverse expertise and resources. This ensures our projects are evidence-based, scalable, and aligned with global goals, proving that collective action is essential to create a resilient and prosperous future.

OUR PROJECTS

OUR IMPACT SO FAR

Environmental Impact - We restore degraded land using nature-based solutions like Kisiki Hai and rainwater harvesting. Bringing back trees and vegetation strengthens the soil, supports biodiversity, and improves the lives of the people who depend on the land.

Community Development Impact - We help communities lead their own change. Restoring land also strengthens livelihoods, builds local resilience, and grows new grassroots leaders, proof that real impact reaches beyond trees to thriving communities.

Leadership Impact - We grow leaders from the ground up. By training champion farmers in communication, organizing, and community mobilization, we build local leaders who guide their neighbors and carry the values of conservation and service into their communities. The skills stay in the village, long after a project ends.
